- What is the Porta Lung?
- How does negative pressure with a Porta Lung work?
Negative Pressure with a Porta Lung functions in much the same way as the human respiratory system. The pump running the Porta Lung takes ambient air in the atmosphere and pumps it through a hose attached to both the ventilator and the Porta Lung. The air circulates around the inside of the Porta Lung's fiberglass cylindrical frame and pushes the air into the patient's lungs. The patient, meanwhile, assimilates himself or herself to its breathing rhythm by relaxing and allowing the Porta Lung to do the breathing. Like the human respiratory system, the patient's lungs expand and the diaphragm contracts when the respirator is inhaling. Upon exhalation the opposite occurs. The patient's diaphragm expands and the lungs contract when the Porta Lung lets the air out.
- Where can I buy the Porta Lung?
- How much does the Porta Lung typically cost?
- Will my insurance cover it?
- Will I feel claustrophobic inside of it?
I would answer "No" to feeling claustrophobic in a Porta Lung but then again, I can't speak for everyone. One has to try it to find out.
- What type of pump is used to run the Porta Lung?
